Obituary of Marjorie Jean Groves

Marjorie Hunt Bell, 94, went home to the arms of Jesus Jan. 6. For the past year and a half, she had been living at The Pavilion, a care facility in El Dorado Hills.

Marjorie was born in Litchfield, Ill., July 28, 1926. She was the second of three children born to Stanley and Exye Groves. Her family moved several times, eventually settling in San Francisco.

Growing up, she was a Girl Scout and took up tap dancing and later in life she actually became a tap dancing instructor. She was actively involved in her church youth group. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1944, where she was vice president of her senior class.

In the fall of that year, she fell in love with and married Allen O. Hunt, a handsome, young Marine fighter pilot during World War II. Their four children; Allen, Denise, Linda and Bill were born over the following seven years.

In 1959 the Hunt family moved from the Bay Area to Placerville. In 1960, Marge went to work as an accountant for the Department of Public Works in El Dorado County. She worked for 26 years, retiring in 1986.

Marge had a very upbeat, happy and positive personality. She laughed a lot and never harder than at herself. Life was never boring to her; she was always a doer. She had a funny and tenacious ability to tackle anything, be it grabbing a sledgehammer to make a hole in the wall where she wanted a desk, digging a pond by herself in her backyard, or reupholstering the living room furniture on a whim. She was also an expert seamstress and an exquisite gardener and landscaper, creating and maintaining the most gorgeous park like settings.

The door to her home was always open to family, friends, neighbors, her children and their friends, and to her grandchildren and their friends as well. None of her family will ever forget the barbecues, the badminton tournaments, the birthday parties, a wedding and even Mom and Dad’s 50th Wedding Anniversary, all held in their beautiful backyard.

Probably the most endearing memories to all of the family, are the fabulous Christmas Eve gatherings; highlighted each year by the most amazing talent show put on by Marge’s seven grandchildren, all of whom she was extremely proud of, supported and dearly loved.

In 1999, Marge’s husband Al passed away after nearly 55 years of marriage. In 2005 Marge also lost her oldest son, Allen. Her faith sustained her, knowing she would be reunited with both of them again some day.

In 2006 Marge met a widower, a very cheerful and Godly man named Bill Bell. They courted and married and enjoyed six wonderful years of love and companionship until Bill went home to the Lord in 2012. Bill’s two daughters, Cheryll and Linda and their many extended family members were very dear to Marge and enlarged her family circle hugely.

Marge was a deeply committed believer and follower of her Lord and Savior Jesus. She read her worn Bible from cover to cover countless times. She was an active and much loved member of Gold Country Baptist Church for more than 40 years, volunteering and helping out wherever needed.

In her mid 80s, Marge started a weekly ladies prayer group at her church. She also volunteered for Providence Christan School in her home, by preparing workbooks for the lower grades.

Marge was an avid reader and made many trips to the Cameron Park Library to find good mysteries clear into her early 90s. She dearly loved her two little rat terriers that sat on her lap while she read.

In late 2019, Marge moved to The Pavilion in El Dorado Hills. She made many new and special friends. Marge’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Pavilion for all of their tender and loving care given to their mom and grandma.

Marge’s family also thanks the congregants at Gold Country Baptist Church for their long time friendship, love and support to Marge and to her family.

Mom’s motto was “Worrying doesn’t solve anything … give it to God.”

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents Stan and Exye Groves; her husband Allen O. Hunt; her son Allen R. Hunt; her daughter-in-law Connie Hunt; her husband Bill Bell; her sister Wilma Steves; her nephew James Farrell; and her son-in-law Timothy Pinelli.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Gold Country Baptist Church.

Marge was a big supporter of missionaries who spread the Word of God around the world.

Obituary of Allen Richard Hunt

RAVALLI REPUBLIC, Dec. 23, 2005---

HAMILTON - Allen R. Hunt, 59, of Hamilton, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at his home. He was born September 29, 1946 in San Francisco, Calif., the son of Allen O. and Marjorie J. (Groves) Hunt.

Allen was raised and educated in Placerville, Calif., and graduated from Ponderosa High School in 1964. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 and honorably discharged in 1967. Allen began his career in law enforcement in 1968 and remained until retiring from the El Dorado County Sheriffs Department as captain in 1996.

Allen loved cowboy'n, hunting and living in Montana. He was preceded in death by his father in 1999. He is survived by his wife, Janeene, of Hamilton; sons Allen Hunt, of Hamilton, Wesley Hunt and fiancée Teresa Fanning, of San Diego, Calif., and Clinton Hunt and wife Alana, of South Carolina; mother Marjorie Ferguson, of Placerville, Calif.; grandson Cole William Hunt, of South Carolina; brother Bill Hunt and wife Connie, of Placerville, Calif.; sisters Denise Brown and husband Bob and Linda Pinelli and husband Tim, all of Placerville, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Daly-Leach Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton with full military honors. There will be a reception following the committal services in the funeral home's community room. A service will be held in Placerville in January and will be announced.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Allen's name to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel.
