    Elgin - Death of a Student

    Mr. Thomas Chalmers Macdonald, a promising student, and grandson of the Rev. Dr. Macdonald of Ferintosh, died last week at Elgin, aged twenty three. He was the son of the Rev. John Macdonald, the missionary, and was born in Calcutta in 1847. Mr. Macdonald was a distinguished student at the Elgin Academy, and afterwards at the University of Aberdeen, where he carried off one of the highest bursaries. His last three winters were passed in Edinburgh, studying for the ministry of the Free Church. Mr. Macdonald was very pious, thoughtful, and cheerful, and was much beloved wherever he was known.
