Obituary for Robert "Bob" H. Schroeder

Robert H. Schroeder, 94 year old resident of Little Falls, MN passed away Monday, February 26, 2024 at his home in Little Falls, MN. A memorial service for Bob will be held at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls in the near future; the specific date is pending at this time. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Little Falls. Instead of flowers, memorials are preferred to Grey Face Rescue & Retirement (greyfacerescue.org), a senior-dog rescue in St. Joseph, or the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota (wrcmn.org) in Roseville. Caring for Bob and his family is the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN.

Robert Harry Schroeder was born on October 13, 1929, in Little Falls to the late Delphia (Tedford) Schroeder and Harry Schroeder. His childhood in Little Falls included adventures on and along the Mississippi River and a pet crow known to follow him to the old Washington Elementary School. During World War II, the Schroeder family moved to Minneapolis after Bob’s father accepted a job related to the war effort. After graduation from Minneapolis South High School and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, Bob completed a tool-and-die apprenticeship at Brown & Bigelow, where he worked for 10 years. Following Brown & Bigelow he worked at the Eaton Corporation in Eden Prairie for 30 years, where he eventually headed an engineering research-and-development laboratory. As a young man, Bob also served in the Army Reserve as an artillery specialist. Bob married Patricia (Young) Schroeder of Hopkins, Minnesota in 1952 and they had two sons, Larry and Corey. After his retirement from the Eaton Corporation, Bob and Patricia relocated to Escondido, California. After Patricia’s death in 1996, Bob returned to Minnesota, where he met his childhood friend and second wife, also named Patricia, at a Little Falls class reunion. The two married in 1997 and resided in Little Falls; Patricia (Gordon) Schroeder died in 2021. Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed recreational as well as professional mechanical engineering (including repairing his own cars and gunsmithing), the outdoors (especially hunting and fishing), dogs, books, music, and movies. He was a direct descendant of Mayflower ancestors, including John Billington and Francis Eaton.

In addition to his two wives, Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty (Schroeder) (Dahl) Colby; his brother, Donald Schroeder; and a niece, Janette Schroeder.

Bob is survived by his son, Larry and daughter-in-law, Roberta (both of St. Paul, Minnesota), his son, Corey (Camarillo, California), and four nieces and their children.
