    Obituary
    Obituary of Stuart "Ted" Wharton
    Conger-Morris Funeral Directors website

Stuart "Ted" T. Wharton passed away at his home in Medford Ore. June 18, 2014.

Ted was born in Gold Hill Ore. October 26, 1919 to Howard E. Wharton and Ida F. (Starns) Wharton.

He finished his freshman year at Gold Hill High School, then moved to Medford to join his parents and graduated Medford High School in 1938.

Ted's life-long love of hunting, fishing, and hiking began in Gold Hill when he was a youngster. He passed this love on to his family and Boy Scout troops.

As a young man Ted went to work for Sam Jennings Company in Medford and spent 45 years serving Jenning's customers faithfully, retiring as a Manager in 1985, except for two military stints with the U.S. Army: WWII & Korea.
Ted was involved in the Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years, serving as not only a Scoutmaster, but as a trainer of Scoutmasters. He received all Scouting honors awarded. Ted also belonged to the Oregon Log & Lumber Truckers league. After retirement he began a business and after 10 years sold out and retired for a second time at 75. He then became involved with the Gold Hill Historical Society as a Chapter member and helped set up many of the unique displays, including moving in the Stamp Mill.

Ted's love of the outdoors included outdoor cooking, and teaching wilderness survival and compass courses. He loved gun collecting, outdoor photography, water and snow skiing and writing and telling short stories and old woodsman fables.
He epitomized DIY mechanics and carpentry, including building from scratch three Jeeps and a Jeep pick-up with a boom for woodcutting.

Ted loved learning new innovations and even had a cell phone, but decided a computer might be taking it too far.
His love of the outdoors, especially in Jackson County, teaching others about it and its history, telling all the tales (mostly true) will be greatly missed. He was a terrific Dad, Uncle, Grandpa and friend.

He is survived by his son, David A Wharton and daughter, Donna F. (Carl) Saddler, his brother Charles B Wharton, 2 grandsons: Stephen M. (Lee) Saddler and Matthew D (Carrie) Saddler and 4 great-grandchildren: Jared R., Kelsey P., Caleb J. and Jacob L. Saddler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Armella (Souza).

There will be a Gathering of Remembrance on Sunday, July 20th, from 10am-12pm at the Gold Hill Historical Museum. No flowers, please donate to either the Boy Scouts or the Gold Hill Historical Society.
