Mrs. James Gordon

Mrs. James Gordon, a resident of Little Falls for many years died yesterday at Ancker hospital, St. Paul, where she had been a patient about two months. She had been ill since last fall. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon in St. Paul.

Mrs. Gordon, whose maiden name was Minnie Bahr, attended the Church of Our Saviour while a resident of the city and was a member of the Kensington club.
Surviving are two sons, Donald and Morley, St. Paul, two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Frank T. Nelson, Duluth, formerly of Little Falls.

Mr. Gordon preceded his wife in death a number of years ago.

Bernadine A. Durrenberger, 95, of Sun City, AZ passed away April 26, 2020. Bernadine was born on November 30, 1924 to Joseph and Bernadine (Randall) Stiegel in Little Falls, Minnesota. Bernadine graduated from the University of Minnesota. In 1971, she and her husband, Robert W. Durrenberger moved to Arizona. She enjoyed playing golf with her husband and playing bridge; she was a Duplicate Bridge Master.

In 2012, Bernadine was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Robert; she is also predeceased by her son Dan Durrenberger. Bernadine is survived by her daughter Mary Ann (Mike) Marasco; her grandchildren Amy (Patrick) Armstrong, Kristen (William) Gowen-MacDonald, and Dylan Maraso; her great-grandchildren Emily and Taylor Armstrong, and Claire and Zoe Gowen-MacDonald; her sister Phyllis Weigel and her brother John Stiegel; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Daniel J. Durrenberger. Arizona lost a major television innovator and consummate communicator when Daniel J. Durrenberger passed away on March 26, 2009, after a long battle with liver disease caused by a genetic blood disorder. Dan was born in Los Angeles, CA on February 26, 1952. He graduated from Chaminade High School in l970 and then went on to be a graduate of ASU with a bachelor's degree in marketing and an MBA in management.

Dan worked for KAET TV Channel 8 for nearly 20 years, moving up in responsibility from producer to station manager. Dan was the founder of Channel 8's popular live public affairs program, "Horizon." He was also responsible for several Arizona and national broadcasting "firsts' at Channel 8 during his tenure: 170 hours of the nation's first live gubernatorial impeachment trial in the impeachment of Arizona Governor Evan Mecham; the first national broadcast of the surgical replacements of a human hip and a human knee; the first broadcast of oral arguments before a state supreme court; the first live broadcast of Halley's Comet, which was part of a 70-part astronomy series from the Kitt Peak National Observatory; the live broadcast of open heart surgery conducted by renowned heart surgeon Ted Dietrich; and the first televised symposium on AIDS-related issues. Many leaders in the television and film industry today got their starts at Channel 8 under Dan's tutelage. A Tempe resident, Dan also spent much of his life in community service to his state and his city.

Dan contributed extensive service to the Tempe Board of Adjustment, Arizona Supreme Court Commission on Judicial Performance Review, Tempe Neighborhoods Tomorrow Task Force, Maricopa Association of Governments Blue Ribbon Committee on Urban Growth and its 2025 Visioning Committee and Tempe's Industrial Development Authority. He chaired more than 400 public hearings on zoning-related issues in Tempe. For many years Dan was a prolific columnist for The Arizona Republic and he was the author of two books: Tempe's Neighborhood Association Handbook: Organizing for Success and Tempe's Board and Commission Members Handbook. He also contributed to Tempe's Neighborhood Nuisance and Enhancement Ordinance and the city's Rental Housing Code. In 1995, Dan joined Flatt & Associates, Ltd, Public Relations and Public Affairs, as vice-president of client services, where he served until the end of his life.

Dan was recognized with many awards during his career, including recognition from the American and Maricopa County Bar Associations, the National Commendation Award from the American Women in Radio and Television, recognition from the International Film and Television Festival of New York, Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards, a Freedom of Information Award from the British Medical Association and multiple awards from the Phoenix Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Dan is survived by his parents, Robert and Bernadine Durrenberger of Sun City, Arizona; sister Mary Ann Marasco and husband Michael; nieces Amy Armstrong and husband Patrick; and Kristen Daukulis. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched. Dan was laid to rest at a private memorial ceremony that was conducted by Messinger Mortuaries and lovingly overseen by Paul Messinger, Dan's dearest and most treasured client.

Joseph A. Stiegel, 66, 515 SE 2nd St., died Tuesday in St. Gabriel's Hospital. He was born March 15, 1898, in Perham, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Stiegel. Until his retirement he had been in the grocery business for many years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1804, a past member of the Lions Club for 26 years, a past member of St. Gabriel's Hospital Advisory Board, and a past president of the Chamber of Commerece.

Surviving him are his widow, Bernadine N. (Randall) Stiegel; two sons and two daughters: Joseph R., N. St. Paul; John F., St. Cloud; Mrs. Robert (Bernadine) Durrenberger, Northridge, CA.; and Mrs. Richard (Phyllis) Weigel, Little Falls. There are two brothers and three sisters: Leonard and Jacob, Detroit, MI.; Mrs. John Belka, Perham; Mrs. Lawrence Janski, Little Falls, and Mrs. S. V. Evans, Santa Cruz, CA.; also 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Church, with Rt. Rev. Msgr. T. Leo Keaveny celebrating the Solemn Requiem High Mass. Buriel will be in Calvary Cemetery. Vistation hours in the Simonet Funeral Home will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday. The parish will pray the Office of the Dead together at 8 p.m., and the Daughters of Isabella will pray the Rosary at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

MRS. BERNADINE (BUNNY) STIEGEL

Mrs. Bernadine (Bunny) Stiegel, age 83, a resident of Little Falls, died May 9 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls.

Bernadine (Bunny) Stiegel was born May 7, 1902 in Little Falls to the late Mr. and Mrs. Phil and Nora Randall.

Survivors include sons, Joseph R. (Pete) of Little Falls, MN., John F. of St. Cloud, MN., daughters, Mrs. Robert (Bernadine) Durrenberger of Phoenix, AZ., Mrs. Richard (Phyllis) Weigel of Little Falls, MN., brothers Walter and Anthony (Tony) Randall of Little Falls; sisters, Marie Reily and Ramona Randall, both of Little Falls; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Phil and Nora Randall, her husband, Joseph A. Stiegel and two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held May 14 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Falls with Rev. Alvin Quade officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in Little Falls.

Obituary of Joseph Stiegel

Joseph R. “Pete” Stiegel, 86 year old resident of Little Falls, MN died Wednesday, September 19 at the Pierz Villa Nursing Home in Pierz, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 24 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Al Stangl officiating. Burial will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of service on Monday at the Pierz Villa Nursing Home in Pierz, MN.

Joseph R. Stiegel was born July 24, 1926 in Little Falls, MN to the late Joseph and Bernadine (Randall) Stiegel. He grew up and attended school in Little Falls, MN. As a young boy, he worked for his father’s grocery store business “Stiegel Grocery” in Little Falls, MN. He graduated with the class of 1944. During his time in high school, Joseph was a standout basketball player. His senior year he scored 22 points in a single game, which at that time, was a school record. Joseph served his country in the United States Navy from June 2, 1944 until June 26, 1946, entering the service at the age of 17. He was a veteran of World War II. He was stationed for a portion of his military duty in the South Pacific. Joseph attended the University of Minnesota. He returned to Little Falls, MN. Joseph was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Guggemos on June 5, 1950 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson, WI. The couple made their home in North St. Paul, MN for 14 years. They attended St. Peter’s Catholic Church in North St. Paul, MN. The couple later divorced. Joseph returned to Little Falls, MN to live. He was a very passionate Minnesota Gopher football and basketball fan and the Minnesota Vikings.

Cherishing his memory are his son, Thomas (Donna) Stiegel of Clive, IA; daughter, Kathryn May of Campbell, CA; sisters, Bernadine “TeBun” (Robert) Durrenberger of Phoenix, AZ, Phyllis Weigel of Little Falls, MN; brother, John (Mary Lou) Stiegel of St. Cloud, MN; grandchildren, Robert May, Joanna May, Joseph Stiegel, Matthew Stiegel and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Stiegel of Minneapolis, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bernadine Stiegel; son, James Stiegel; wife, Elizabeth “Betty” and a brother-in-law, Richard Weigel.

The Stiegel Family wants to thank the staff at the Pierz Villa and St. Croix Hospice for the excellent care they provided our father and brother.
