Wigtown Free Press
4 November 1874
Sudden Death-On Thursday last, Mr. John M'Kean, joiner, Gatehouse, died suddenly at Drummuckloch, Anwoth. He had gone out to Drummuckloch early in the morning to do some work. After arriving there he partook of breakfast along with Mr. Brown, and then went out to commence work. He was followed in about ten minutes by Mr. Brown, who found him lying behind the office-house, with his face resting on hands, dead. Dr. Moffat was called in, and gave his opinion that death had resulted from disease of the heart. Mr. M'Kean had been in perfect good health for some time. He was 66 years of age.
