Agnes B. Kubik, 83, a longtime resident of Dunn County died Tuesday evening, Jan. 13, 2009 at the Matlock Place Health and Rehabilitation Center in Arlington, Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial for Agnes will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at St. Marys Catholic Church, Richardton with Fr. Boniface Muggli, OSB as the celebrant and Fr. Jerry Ruelle, OSB as con-celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Agnes was born on August 6, 1925 to parents John and Emelia (Boespflug) Steckler. She married George Kubik on Nov. 22, 1949, and soon after moved to a farm & ranch near Manning. They were married for 59 years, and spent most of those hard working years building a farm operation and raising a family. Agnes is survived by her loving husband and partner George, and younger sister, Charlotte Sadowsky. Also privileged to share in her life are five children; Rosalind Kubik, Russ (Ione) Kubik, Kurt (Gail) Kubik, Klay (Susan) Kubik, and Mike (Darla) Kubik. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren; Aaron Hauck and Alia Green, Rachael and Liza Kubik, Jamie, Jared, Jenny, Jacob, Jesse, and Lucas Kubik, Amber Ziething, Tyler Pelton and Mikale Kubik; and five great-grandchildren.

In her earlier years, Agnes attended Dickinson State College and became a country school teacher near Manning. She was committed to excellence in education throughout her life and strongly encouraged this to her children. Active in her community, she was extremely hardworking and completely dedicated to the family farm & ranch. Agnes, with husband George, was instrumental in organizing the National Farmers Organization at the local and state levels. She also played an active role for many years in the N.D. State Wheat Commission. Agnes was a true humanitarian, a strong Roman Catholic, shared generously with all that knew her, and always promoted charity to those in need. She was local president of the American Cancer Society, board member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, and officer/volunteer for the Democratic Party, among her many roles and accomplishments.

Agnes contributed unconditional love and devotion to her family, always and to her final days. She was known for her quiet strength, elegant presence, and positive attitude. She loved to read, travel, and dance step with George. Agnes was a great cook for any size crowd. She was an excellent conversationalist with all ages, and a wonderful companion to anyone who sought her friendship and counsel.

Please join the family of Agnes Kubik in this final farewell to a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Bessie Pavilcek, 91, Dickinson, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. A Memorial Mass is 1 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2003, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Basil Atwell, OSB, celebrating. Internment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, New Hradec. Visitation is Saturday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a rosary being said at 11:30 a.m.

Bessie Barta was born March 6, 1912, to Vince and Christina (Kubik) Barta. When Bessie was two years old, her father died in a buggy accident. Her mother then married Joe F. Kadrmas. Bessie attended country school north of Dickinson. On July 15, 1930, she married Emil C. Pavlicek at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, New Hradec. Together they farmed north of Dickinson until they retired and moved into Dickinson. Bessie then worked at St. Luke’s Home for six years as a cook. Emil died in 1983. Bessie enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers, coffee, bingo, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren.

Bessie is survived by: one daughter, Betty (Ben) Svihl, Dickinson; one son, Larry (Gayle) Pavlicek, Dickinson; 11 grandchildren, Gaylene (Don) Schulz, Dickinson, Dennis (Marla) Svihl, Dickinson, Randy Svihl, Bismarck, Greg (Bobbie) Svihl, Trenton, N.D., Rocky (Genie) Svihl, Dickinson, Kelly Svihl, Tonapah, Nev., Kay Haag, Dickinson, Tammy (Jamie) Jalbert, Dickinson, Tara Pavlicek, Minneapolis, Minn., Brandi Pavlicek, Rochester, Minn. and Preston Pavlicek, Dickinson; 23 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Leiss, Dickinson and Alice (Jerome) Herauf, Van Nuys, Calif.; three brothers, Henry (Vi) Kadrmas, Dickinson, Bob (Angie) Kadrmas, Dickinson and Joe (Donna) Kadrmas, St. Coix, Wis. Obituary of Betty Jane Pavlicek

Betty Jane Svihl, 84, Dickinson died Friday November 11, 2016 at her home. Betty’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2016 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher as the celebrant. Inurnment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon bob Stockert presiding.

Betty was born on November 24, 1931 and was raised on her father’s farm in Dunn County. She grew up as the only child because her brother Eugene, died as an infant and her twin brothers were not born until she was almost married. She said many times, I always wanted a brother or sister to play with when I was growing up.

Betty married Ben Svihl on October 6, 1948 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, New Hradec. Together they farmed on the Green River, north of Dickinson until they retired and moved to Dickinson in 2010. Betty wanted a large family because she grew up alone. She got her wish ending up with eight children. She also wanted to earn her own money, which is why she went to work after the twins got to school age. Her first job was a White Drug, washing dishes for $.65 an hour. She then went to work at Excel Cleaners where she developed her seamstress/alteration skills. She did this for 14 years. She then started her own alterations shop which she continued until right up to her death.

Betty enjoyed her large family and loved her alterations shop in Dickinson. Her homemaking included a summer garden, butchering her own chickens, canning, and baking. She almost always made three meals every day for her eight children and somebodies extra kid from somewhere always seemed to find their way to her dinner table. Many, many friends of the family, after becoming adults, thanked her for letting them come to her farm and just have a lot of fun. Her alterations shop was not only very lucrative but caused her to make hundreds of friends. Everybody in Dickinson knows Betty Jane and her sewing shop.

Betty did get her large family wish. She told her children she was very blessed to get to see her large family of eight children get married and then see her 24 grandchildren grow up and many of them get married and add to her family with 27 great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her eight children, Gaylene (Don) Schulz, Dickinson, Dennis (Marla) Svihl, Dickinson, Randy Svihl, Greg (Bobbi) Svihl, Williston, Rocky (Genie) Svihl, Surprise, Ariz., twins Kelly Svihl, Tonapah, Nev., and Kay Haag, Dickinson, and Tammy (Jamie) Jalbert, Dickinson; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and brother Larry (Gayle) Pavlicek, Dickinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ben Svihl; parents Emil and Bessie (Barta) Pavlicek; brother Eugene Pavlicek; brother Gary Pavlicek; granddaughter Sally Ann Svihl; and ten of Ben’s brothers and sisters.
