    Obituary of Laudie L. Sykora

    Laudie L. Sykora, 79, Dickinson, died Monday, August 8, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Laudie's Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Church of St. Wenceslaus, Dickinson, with Fr. Patrick Schumacher as the celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan on Monday at 12 p.m. CT. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Veterans Honor Guard following the service. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Bob Zent presiding.

    Laudie was born November 16, 1931 in Stark County of North Dakota, the son of Laudie and Bessie (Jilek) Sykora. He attended Versippi School. Laudie served honorably in the United States Army from July 30, 1954 to May 24, 1956.

    Laudie returned home and married Lorraine Froehlich on June 27, 1956. They moved to a farm north west of Dickinson for three years and then back into town. He worked for Badinger Sand & Gravel, and Fisher Sand & Gravel, prior to beginning a 23 year career with Stark County, which he retired from in 1996, and during this time he also worked part time for West Plains Implement. During the harvest season he enjoyed helping George Sykora with the harvest.

    He belonged to the Dickinson Veterans Honor Guard, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, German/Hungarian, and K.D. of New Hradec. He enjoyed playing solitaire, search word puzzles, poker games, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

    Laudie is survived by his wife, Lorraine; their three children, Robert (Sherri) Sykora, Dickinson, Connie (Francis) Knopik, Belfield, and Denice (Terry) Hager, Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Stephen Knopik, Jessica (Funnon) Barker, Debrah (Lester) Iverson, Grace Knopik, Daniel Knopik, Joe Hager and Chris Hager; one great-grandchild, Payton Iverson; three sisters, Georgie (Vince) Hibl, Irene (George) Kessel, Dickinson, and Bernice (Roger) Ballweber, Fergus Falls, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents.

    Obituary of George L. Kubischta

    A funeral Mass for George L. Kubischta, 87, Dickinson, is 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson, with Rev. Kregg Hochhalter celebrating. Interment will be in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.


    Visitation for George is noon to 9 p.m. Monday, April 23, at Stevenson Funeral Home, with a rosary and vigil service at 7 p.m. by Deacon Bob Stockert. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Stevenson Funeral Home.

    George passed away Thursday, April 18, at St. Benedict's Health Center, Dickinson.

    George L. Kubischta was born Nov. 26, 1925, on the family farm south of Dickinson, to Joseph F. and Victoria (Sykora) Kubischta. He attended Frenzel country school for eight years.

    He then worked on the family farm as well as neighboring farms until his enlistment in the U.S. Army in 1944. He proudly served his country in the Pacific during World War II being honorably discharged in 1946.

    After returning to Dickinson, George and Martha Ficek were married Nov. 5, 1946, in New Hradec. Together they raised five children, Louise, Ron, Kathy, Rose and Arnie.

    George was owner and operator of Kubischta Excavation until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and collecting family history.

    George and Martha were married 51 years before she passed away in 1998. George and Dolores Decker were married on Aug. 10, 2001, and have made Dickinson their home since.

    George was a past member of the Dickinson VFW club.

    George is survived by his wife Dolores; his children Louise (Al) Powers, Oconto, Wis., Ron (Robbee) Broomfield, Colo., Kathy (Gene) Kinzel, Dickinson, Rose (Tom) Kuntz, Dickinson and Arnie Kubischta, Dickinson. George was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Jenifer Powers, Chris (Elizabeth) Powers, Dante (Alda) Kubischta, Shea (Joann) Kubischta, Cory (Josh) Wood, Lisa (Brian) Moe, Lora (Micah) Grafenstein-Kinzel, John Kinzel, Kyle (Amber) Kuntz, Christina (Erick) Gisvold, and Brent (Kim) Kubischta and 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William (Beatrice) Kubischta, Manning, James Kubischta, Dickinson; a sister Dorothy Ficek, Dickinson; a sister-in-law Marge Kubischta as well as numerous nieces and nephews,

    George's extended family includes Robert Decker (friend Connie), Las Vegas, Rodney Decker, Dickinson, Richard Decker (friend Debbie), Dickinson, Karen Damske, Dickinson, Jeanie (Alan) Kadrmas, Dickinson and Alan Decker, Roseville, Minn., and numerous extended grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Martha, brother Ludwig and his wife Eva, sister Marie and brother-in-law Otto Ficek, and a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Kubischta.
