Rosanna Welsh Ewart, known as "Posie" to family and friends, died in Wilmington, North Carolina, on June 15, 2015.

She was the daughter of Fanita and Vernon Welsh and grew up in Winnetka. Mrs. Ewart graduated from the North Shore Country Day School and Mills College. After college she worked for two years at the Marshall Plan in Paris. Back in the U.S. in 1951, she married Clifford B. Ewart, Jr.

He is the son of Cynthia Eagles Hodgson of Harwichport, Mass., and Robin Porter of Wickford, R.I. His father retired from the State Department after serving in the Soviet Union, where he was consul general in Kiev; afterward he was a Republican state senator in Rhode Island, representing the North Kingstown district from 1992 to 1996.

Ms. Watson and Mr. Porter were on a blind date arranged by a friend in January 2003, when, after about two hours, Mr. Porter mentioned that he had worked for Kidder Peabody, the former New York stock brokerage. Ms. Watson then asked, ''Did you work at 101 Park Avenue?'' His positive response caused Ms. Watson to exclaim, ''Oh, my God, we've met before.''

For a moment or two both were speechless. Then he said: ''Are you O.K.? You look a little pale.'' They soon realized that they had met in July 1987 when Ms. Watson, then 19, was a summer intern at Kidder Peabody. ''Chris took the time walking me through my job responsibilities in great detail,'' she recalled. ''I remembered his thoughtful and patient manner.'' Mr. Porter, then 27, recalled being struck by her when he took her out to lunch as a professional courtesy. He also remembers concluding that the age difference was too great. Even so, he said, he found it was difficult to get her out of his mind after her internship ended.

On the night of their reintroduction, Ms. Watson feared that Mr. Porter would still think of her as a kid and that she would never hear from him again. Her fears vanished when he called the next day.
