Mr. & Mrs. M. Morson and daughter, Miss Clara, and Peter Schons and family were at St. Peter Tuesday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Helen Schons, who died at her home in Donnybrook N.D. last Saturday. The deceased was born in Luxemburg, Ger. about 63 years ago and came with her parents to this country, and settled in Belgrade township. She was married in St. Peter to Mike Schons who passed away about 14 years ago. She is survived by 5 children.

The remains of John Schons, who died at Donnybrook, North Dakota, last Sunday afternoon, arrived in St. Peter Tuesday morning and were taken out to the home of his uncle, Mr. Jacob Mondloh, where the funeral arrangements were made. He was employed as a mail carrier and was 24 years of age.
He is survived by his mother and four sisters and two brothers. One of the brothers and the mother accompanying the remains to this place. The funeral was held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the Middle Lake church.

Schons-- Hilda O., 1319 High St., age 80, passed away Monday, Aug. 14. Mrs. Schons was a 40 year resident and was a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of FOE Ladies Auxiliary and was active in Senior Citizens. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Helen O'Grady, Everett, Mrs. Ann Wilson, of Marysville, Mrs. Clara Scopazzi of Boulder Creek, Calif.; 1 son, Michael A. Schons of Sunnyside, Wa.; 19 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Mel Christoferson, city; a sister, Mrs. Emma Anderson, city. Christian prayer services will be conducted by Rev. Thomas R. Hanley Thursday, August 17 at 12 noon at the Jones Funeral Home. Private interment Greenacres Memorial Park.

Helen Bernadine O'Grady, 92, died on December 30, 2009 in Marysville. She was born near her family's homestead in Opheim, Valley County, Montana on July 15, 1917, the first child of Michael L. Schons and Hilda O. Christopherson.
She moved to Whatcom County with her family in 1925. She was a 1935 graduate of Ferndale High School and worked as a waitress at the Bungalow Barbecue in Ferndale. She briefly attended Western Washington College of Education. As a Seattle resident in the 1940s, she worked for the King County Health Department, was a waitress at Manning's Cafeteria, and a clerk at Frederick & Nelson department store.

She married Robert E. O'Grady in Bellingham in 1949, and had resided in Everett since 1953, where the family were members of Immaculate Conception Parish. In 1957, she was a founding member of St. Mary Magdalen Parish, and beginning in 1960 was especially grateful for the opportunity to provide her children with a Catholic education at the parish school. When her children were grown, she worked briefly with Food and Nutrition Services of Everett Public Schools and at the Bel-Nes Café in Everett for her brother-in-law, Maurice Wilson. Helen was partially disabled by a stroke suffered in 1995.

She is survived by her brother, Mike Schons (Donna) of Union Gap, WA; children, John of Seattle, Jim (Alice) of Long Beach, CA, Jean O'Grady (Mark Hudson) of Everett, Bill of Seattle, Margy O'Grady (Greg Nylander) of Marysville, Cathy Riber (Mike) of Bellingham, Steve (Lynn) of Arlington; grandchildren, Megan Riber, Jack Riber, Ryan O'Grady, and Emily O'Grady; step-grandchildren, Susan Hamm and Kiel Hamm; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; and by her sisters, Ann Wilson and Clare Scopazzi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 8717 7th Ave. SE in Everett at 11 a.m. on Wednesday January 6, 2010. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Purdy & Walters with Cassidy of Everett. Interment will be at Cypress Lawn Cemetery, Everett.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of Sylvan Crest and Summer Breeze Haven adult family homes in Everett and Cedarcrest adult family home in Marysville for their care of Helen during the past two years. We also wish to thank the staff of Providence Hospice.

Mom, you taught us to stand up for ourselves, but never to forget the laughs, hugs, and kisses.

Clara M. Scopazzi, or Clare as she preferred to be known, left us on July 9, 2007 in Arlington, WA.

Clare was born January 31, 1922 on a homestead near Hinsdale, MT to Hilda O. and Michael L. Schons. At the age of 3 she moved with her family to Bellingham, WA. In 1942, Clare entered Registered Nurse's training at Providence Hospital in Everett after completing prerequisites at Western Washington College in Bellingham. After receiving her nursing degree, Clare traveled across the country with her friend Marnie, working at hospitals from New York to New Orleans and eventually to San Francisco. There she worked as a surgical scrub nurse for 15 years. On September 12, 1966, Clare married John Scopazzi. The Scopazzis settled at Boulder Creek, CA and Clare began working at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. When Johnny could get away from his restaurant, he and Clare enjoyed traveling. In 1975, Clare suffered a terrible fall which left her unable to continue to work as a nurse. She continued living in California until 2002, when she moved to Arlington to be closer to family.

She is survived by her sister Helen B. O'Grady of Everett, brother Michael L. Schons of Union Gap, WA and many nieces and nephews. Clare was preceded in death by her sister Ann L. Wilson of Marysville, WA and former husband John Scopazzi of Boulder Creek, CA.

There will be a Mass in her memory on July 19, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1200 E. 5th St., Arlington, WA, reception to follow. Dear Aunt Babe: We love you and miss you! From all your favorite nieces and nephews.
