  • Biography
    The following is the Revolutionary War Record for Abraham Warren (1776 - 1780)

    Private Abraham Warren served in Captain David Smith's Company, Colonel Samuel Elmons Regiment, during the Revolutionary War. He enlisted on April 8, 1776 and was discharged on November 18, 1776. Captain Smith's company was stationed at Burnetsfield (German Flatts).

    Private Warren then enlisted in Samuel Mattock's Company, Colonel John Chandler's Regiment. He enlisted May 20, 1777 (8) and was discharged May 20, 1780. This was known as the EIGHTH REGIMENT, "Connecticut Line" formation of 1777-1781.

    Raised from January 1, 1777 for the new "Continental Line" to serve through the war. Enlisted in Litchfield and other counties. It went into the field at Camp Peekskill, spring of '77. Ordered into Pennsylvania in September under Gen. McDougall, it fought at Germantown, October 4, 1777 and suffered some loss. Assigned to Varnum's Brigade on October 16. A detachment from the regiment with one fom Durkee's continued the stubborn defense of Ft. Mifflin, Mud Island, Pennsylvania, November 12-16, 1777 and lost "some gallant officers and men." Wintered at Valley Forge, '77-'78 and on June 28 following, was present at the battle of Monmouth. Encamped during the summer at White Plains with Huntington's Brigade. Wintered '78-'79 at Redding. In the summer of '79, on the Hudson, east side; its Light Company under Captain Munson detached to Meigs' Light Regiment and engaged in storming of Stony Point, July 15, 1779. Wintered '79-'80 at Morristown huts. Summer of 1780 was spent with main army on the the Hudson. Wintered '80-'81 at camp "Connecticut Village", above Robinson's House; and there consolidated for formation of '81-'83.
