Obituary of Ann Schroeder

A funeral Mass for Ann Kadrmas, 89, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 20th at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson, which she was a member of, with Father Keith Streifel celebrating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Visitation for Ann will be 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 19th at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7:00 p.m.

Ann passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 at CHI St. Joseph’s Health in Dickinson.

Ann was born December 29, 1925, in Stark County, the daughter of Nicholas and Anna (Yesch) Schroeder. Growing up she attended country school through the eighth grade in the Lefor area. She moved to Dickinson and worked as a waitress at several restaurants. Ann married Ludwig Kadrmas in Lefor in 1944. With this union they were blessed with eleven children; Gordon, Linda, Galen, Alan, Chester, Joel, Ludwig Jr., Bruce, Kay, Tracy, and Lisa. Together they farmed and raised their family north of Gladstone in the Hirschville area. Ann always made sure her kids were taken care of before her own needs. She raised them to be honorable, hard workers and to respect life and others around them. Her family was her pride and joy and cherished every memory with each child. She watched them grow up and raise families of their own. She waited for visits from her family and she smiled from ear to ear to see all the babies born into her world of GRAMMA. When Ludwig died in 1990, Ann loved the house they built together so much, she couldn’t leave the memories behind so she moved the house to Dickinson to live her final days.

Ann loved to garden and she canned much of the produce. She will be remembered for her wonderful soups and she took pride in making sure no one ever left her home hungry. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, entertaining company, embroidering, doing puzzles, number search, listening to old time music and her favorite country singer Alan Jackson. In recent years, her greatest hobby was her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Anna; husband, Ludwig; daughter, Kay Splichal; infant child; brothers, Ray and Nicholas; sister, Pauline Schultz; and infant twin granddaughters.

Born in Watkins, MN to Michael J. and Anna (Baden) McCarthy. Preceded in death (1999) by husband Joseph W. Enright of Eden Valley; parents and sister, Mildred (Ryer), and brothers, Eugene and Austin McCarthy.

Marian graduated from St. Cloud Teachers College (BE Math, 1936), and USC (BS Library Science, 1942). Marian worked as a teacher in Eden Valley & Litchfield and as a librarian for the Navy and VA in Calif (1945-1960), and VA in Minneapolis (1960-1972), retiring in 1972.

She lived with husband Joe in Calif. and St. Paul, MN until Joe passed away in Aug. 1999. She moved back to CA in 1999.

Obituary of Mary Bridget Harbinson

COUNTY RESIDENT 68 YEARS DEAD

Mrs. M. McCarthy Succumbs At 96 in Watkins / Rites Held Thursday.

Funeral rites were to be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from St. Anthony's church in Watkins for one of Meeker county's oldest residents, Mrs. Mary McCarthy, who died on Monday at the home of her son, M. J. McCarthy in Watkins.

She was 96 years old and had spent 68 years of her life in Forest Prairie and Watkins. Born May 25, 1839 near Belfast, Ireland, she came as a child with her parents to Quebec, Canada, where she grew to womanhood.

After marring Michael J. McCarthy, they came to St. Anthony (now Minneapolis) in 1866, and the following year moved to Meeker county and located on a farm in Forest Prairie township. She was the mother of seven children, four of which survive.
They are Mrs. M. F. Becker and M. J. McCarthy of Watkins, S. J. McCarthy of Eden Valley and J. D. McCarthy of Richland, Wash. Twenty six grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren also survive her.

A grandson Rev. Austin J. Kinsella was celebrant of requiem mass.

Obituary of Joseph Leo Lais

Joseph Leo Lais Served in the first World War, and went on into a career as a bank teller, and eventually, he worked for the Minnesota Highway Patrol Department.

He and his wife Gertrude lived in St. Paul, MN.

Joe was a wonderful Character, though he was not tall, nor particularly unusual in his appearance, his smiling face and twinkling eyes made him light up a room when he entered. He was loved by all, and treated everyone he met with wit, respect, and interest. He is missed by all his grandchildren, and by all who knew him.
