William Groskopp Died at Soldiers’ Home

Was Civil War Veteran – Funeral Monday

William Groskopp, a former resident of this city and veteran of the Civil war, died at the Soldier’s Home on Saturday, March 5, 1921, at the age of 78 years. Death was due to infirmities of old age.

The remains were brought here on Sunday, and the funeral was held on Monday at 2:30 p.m. from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ploumen. A squad of the American Legion in uniform attended the funeral and taps were sounded by Elmer Huber. Rev. Geo. W. Smith of Minneapolis was the officiating clergyman, and the remains were laid to rest in the valley cemetery.

Mr . Groskopp lived most of his life in this vicinity where he was engaged in farming. He enlisted during the Civil Was in Co. 1 9^th Minn. Cavalry and served in the fighting against the Sioux Indians in 1862. Nine years ago he went to the Soldier’s Home to spend his declining days. Those from out of town who were in attendance at the funeral were: Mrs. Mary Groskopp, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Dackins, and Ernest Groskopp of Mankato, Albert and Will Grosskopp of Osakis, Michael Schutz, Mr. and Mrs. Al. Rosbach, and Mr. and Mrs. Clem Mengelkoch of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. August Groskopp, John Groskopp, and Howard Groskopp of Grantsburg, Wisconsin.
Burial 7 March 1921 He was buried on 7 March 1921 in Valley Cemetery at Shakopee, Scott, Minnesota, United States.
