FUNERAL OF PETER H. WEIBELER ON THURSDAY

The funeral of the late Peter H. Weibeler, whose unexpected death from a heart attack was reported last week, was held Thursday morning with a requiem mass at Sts. Peter and Paul's church, Father Mueller officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were Frederick Heywood, Joe N. Weibeler, Robert Walerlius, John Shaughnessy, Jr., Florian Grosser and Raymond Grosser.

Relatives and friends who came from a distance were Pfc. and Mrs. Paul T. Weibeler, John Gill, Mrs. Will Bailey, Mrs. J. F.      WM. H. WEIBELER PASSED AWAY TUESDAY AFTERNOON ATTAINS FINE AGE - TOOK LEADING PART FOR MANY YEARS IN CIVIC AFFAIRS

     William H. Weibeler. Belle Plaine's pioneer merchant and leading figure in the public life of the community for fifty-four years, died at 3:10 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 27. Death was due to old age infirmities, his age being 83 years, 8 months and 21 days.
     Since the past year he has been gradually failing in health, and for the past few weeks was unable to leave home. He was confined to his bed, however, but one day before he died.
     Mr. Weibeler was one of the outstanding figures of Belle Plaine, taking at all times a keen interest in everything that related to the welfare of the community. He came here in 1869, and for a few years was a clerk in the store of A. V. Heyderstaedt. In 1872 he embarked in the mercantile business for himself and remained in this business until he sold out to Mr. Behnke in 1910.
     For many years he conducted our largest store and was widely known as a very successful merchant. He served as mayor, member of the borough council and of the school board, and an officer in our various civic and fraternal organizations.
     He was married here to Catherine Schmitt, daughter of the late Christian Schmitt, and to them eleven children were born, of whom two preceded him to his grave. His wife died in 1907. The surviving children are Gerhard H., Frank; Katherine and John of Belle Plaine; Peter H. of Devils Lake, N.D; William M. of Omaha, Neb; Mrs. Clara Heywood of Minneapolis, Mrs. Angela Durrenberger of Perham, Dr. Christian Weibeler of Adrian. One sister survives him, Mrs. G. Hilgers of Jordan.
     Mr. Weibeler was a native of Germany, born in the city of Butzheim, and he came to this country in 1868, locating at Jordan. He moved to Belle Plaine the following year and remained here ever since.
     The funeral will be held Friday morning, with services at Sts. Peter and Paul's church at 9 o'clock.
Burial 2 March 1923 He was buried on 2 March 1923 in Saints Peter and Paul's Catholic Cemetery at Belle Plaine, Scott, Minnesota, United States.

Biography WILLIAM HUBERT WEIBLER

On June 8, 1837 my great grandfather, Wilhelm Hubert Weipler, was born in Butzheim Germany, a small town with a population of five- hundred in the Rhine Province near Cologne. He was the only one out of a family of thirteen to leave Germany for the New World. It is possible that poverty in the family, due to his fathers handicap, delayed his departure until he was thirty. His father had lost an arm in the Napoleanic War. He left Germany in1867. While going through Customs, his first name was Americanized and his last name was misspelled, according to the way it sounded to the Custom's Officer. His new name was William Hubert Weibeler. From New York he set out for Chicago. To reach Chicago, he boarded a train whose cars closely resembled those used to transport cattle. According to my information, he remained in Chicago only short time. While there, he stayed with relatives or friends from his home town, "William," or "W.H.", as he would later come to be known. He was an ambitious man, however he decided to leave Chicago, despite the opportunities it held. It seemed that he preferred a small town much like Butzheim, to a city the size of Chicago. His dislike for large cities and perhaps Chicago in particular, was later to cost him and his heirs a fortune.

After learning he had relatives living in Jordan, a small town in Minnesota, he made the long hard trip up the Mississippi River to St. Paul by riverboat, and then on to Jordan by stagecoach, or on the railroad which had just been completed. W. H. spent only a few days in Jordan visiting relatives because he soon found a job as a clerk, working for a Mr. Heyderstadt, a store owner from Belle Plaine, a small town seven miles away. Belle Plaine was very much like his home town in Germany. The population was around 497 when he arrived, but was to double within 25 years. He worked for Heyderstadt for only a few months. During this time he learned all he could about the operation of the store and about business in general. Heyderstadt's store was small, and there was much more to be learned at the large general store in the center of town, so he waited for an opening and then went to work for Jim Jordan as a clerk. Most of the men who came into the area were looking only for rich land along the Minnesota River to farm. Labor in town was at a premium, and anyone who was willing and available for steady work was paid a very livable wage. W. H. saved much of the money he made, and soon started looking for places to invest it. He bought tracts of land through out the town and in surrounding areas. By 1871, he opened up a confectionery in the front of the old Belle Plaine Hotel. Although he was still working for Mr. Jordan as an assistant or head clerk, his own small store was beginning to make him a reasonable profit. In 1872 he was approached by several other local business men for the purpose of buying land in the city of Chicago. A fire had recently swept through that city. W. H. rejected the idea. He did not think that a new city would be built over the site of the old one. A dislike for large cities may have also entered into his decision. Much of the profit he had made up to this time was on farm land in the area, so he invested his money in land in North Dakota instead. This land was to be sold later for nearly no profit at all.

On May 5, 1873, W. H. married Catherine Schmitt, the daughter of a local brewery owner, Christian Schmitt. He and his new wife took an apartment in the hotel over his confectionery store where was now working full time. Two years later, in the summer of 1875, Jim Jordan's general store burned to the ground. Jordan decided not to rebuild. He sold the land to W. H., who built a small wooden frame structure to house his confectionery, which was now expanding into a general store. As his sales increased, he expanded the store by building a warehouse in back for storage. With the increased space he began to buy merchandise by the carload. Soon it became evident that the building that housed his store was far to small. In1882 he tore down the old wood structure and replaced it with a larger brick structure. His was the largest general store in a town, whose population was near seven hundred. The store was divided into three sections, each was completely separate from the other by a wall. In one section, he sold clothing, in another, groceries and in the third, hardware. The rear and second floor of the building were his living quarters. These quarters were very large and decorated lavishly. At the time they were built, he had three or four children. Because he expected his family to grow, his home was designed with seven bedrooms. This planning was to pay off, for he was to have eleven children in all. The first floor in the rear of the store held the dining room and the kitchen. Above the kitchen were the maids' quarters, which consisted of three bedrooms. W. H. needed a number of maids, because he fed the eighteen clerks who worked in his store dinner each working day. His dining room was two floors high and measured fifteen by thirty feet. The dining room table was five feet wide and long enough to seat twenty people. It was covered by a lace table cloth which extended over the table on all sides. The living room was on the second floor. It was larger than the dining room. Behind the living room were the seven bedrooms. W. H. had running cold water on the first floor. He accomplished this by running a pipe under the road to the municipal well, which was forty feet from the house. This well had a windmill pump and a twenty foot high water tower.

The most unique aspect of his house was the large ballroom, which was adjacent to the living room. It was so large that it was sometimes used for basketball games. According to Harold Albrecht, the town historian, and author of several books about Belle Plaine, "Weibler Hall dates from the1870's". It was above the store owned by the same family. Up the stairs went crowds of Belle Plainites to the world of entertainment. These included home-talent plays, School entertainments, graduations, lectures, parish fairs, and dinners, wondering minstrel shows; even a Ringling Bros. Circus performance, athletic events, dances, masquerade balls--all the excitement in entertainment the town enjoyed.

The same year he built the store, W. H. bought the Dakota House which contained a hotel, a bar, and a restaurant. This must have been a profitable venture, for information I have, speaks of local hotels filling up with new faces each night. These people were passing through in search of new land to farm. W. H. did not undertake the operation of this hotel, he instead hired others to run it for him. He did the same with a drug store he built next to his general store. On a lot behind the general store he built another hotel. The front of the building still bears the name Weibeler on a metal plaque. He sold a section of land near the general store to a brother-in law for use in establishing the first bank in Belle Plaine.

W.H. was very much a part of life in Belle Plaine. The ways Weibeler Hall was used, shows he was culturally minded. This may have been spurred on by the pride he took in showing off his children's talents. He insisted that each one learn to play a musical instrument. A record of the school musical club in 1900, indicates that five of it's twelve members were his children. He was also involved in many of the town's civic enterprises. In 1896 he was elected Mayor. His campaign coincided with that of presidential hopeful, William Jennings Bryan. During his campaign Bryan made a train stop in Belle Plaine. Clara Weibeler, one of W. H.'s daughters, presented Bryan with a bouquet of flowers after his speech. W. H. was also a councilman, a member of the school board, and the River Commission. He was also one of the major contributors to the establishment of the Catholic Church, Sts. Peter and Paul. Those that remember him say that he and his family were almost always at church on Sunday. He would often invite friends over on Sunday by suggesting that they stop by on the way to church. He and his guests would then walk to church together. After the service they would then return home for a Sunday afternoon dinner. Although he was seldom late for mass, the priests had learned that they better not start the service without him. In the middle of the afternoon he would gather up his family and any lingering guests, and all would attend Benediction. When W. H. went to church, everyone went to church. William Hubert was literally the "Godfather" in Belle Plaine. He was present, in that capacity, for many of the christenings in town. He made one stipulation before he would consent to be the Godfather of a child. All of his godchildren had to take "Hubert" as their middle name. I have not been able to uncover the significance of this request. St. Hubert is the patron saint of dog-bite (hydrophobia) victims. Hydrophobia was greatly feared at that time.

W.H. raised his children strictly, as was the custom of the times. Besides requiring training in the arts, he also insisted that each child receive a higher education. He sent all of his children to a college in the area. With the education they received at the University of Minnesota, St. John's, St. Benedict, and Mankato, many of his children were attracted by life and opportunities which existed outside of the boundaries of Belle Plaine.

Kate was the only child to remain in Belle Plaine after her father's death in 1923. She continued to run the confectionery, which was a small part of the general store her father had established. In 1960, she closed the confectionery, and sold the entire building to the Coast to Coast Co. Today the building houses a hardware store, which is part of the Coast to Coast National chain. The living room and ballroom are used for storage, and the dining room, kitchen, and maid's quarters, all of which are in the rear of the building, are rented out as an apartment. Today, there are no Weibelers living in Belle Plaine. All the land and properties in and around town have been sold. The name of "Weibeler" is remembered only by those interested in the town's early history, or by those who frequented my aunt Kate's confectionery. The building bearing the Weibeler name, which W. H. had built as a hotel, is now a bar. While I was in Belle Plaine gathering information for this paper, I went into that bar. When I told the bartender that my great-grandfather had built the building, he appeared unimpressed, and responded with what I considered to be a disinterested "So"?

Although the name of one of Belle Plaine's early founders is nearly forgotten, it's a name like many others that helped to build the towns, large and small, which sprang up during the frontier period of our country.

I, William H. Weibeler of Belle Plaine in the County of Scott and State of Minnesota, being of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life, do therefore made, ordain and publish and declare this to be my last will and testament.

First, I order and direct that my executors hereinafter named, pay all my just debts and funeral expenses as soon after my decease as conveniently may be out of the Life Ins. Policy of the German R. Catholic Benevolent Society of St. Paul.

Second, after the payment of such funeral expenses and debts, then out of the rest of the money of said Ins. Policy shall be $100 paid to the parish priest of the St. Peter & Paul Church of Belle Plaine, Minn. for masses for the reposed of souls of my wife, my daughter Marie and myself, jointly. If there is some money on hand out of the above named Life Ins. Policy then shall be paid below named amounts to the children, what paid to my son Christian Weibeler Education at the University of Minnesota, as follows:

1. To my son W.M. Weibeler for boarding him for 3 years at 9 months each year total 27 months at $15.00 a month - $405.00 with interest at 4 per cent from June 1, 1917.

Now comes what the other children already received:

1. My son G.H. Weibeler has a house and lots deeded to him in the amount of twelve hundred ($1200.00) Dollars.
2. My son Frank Weibeler the sum of $1200.00 when he went into bankruptcy at Iona, Minn.
3. My son Peter H. Weibeler the sum of twelve hundred ($1200.00) dollars when he went into bankruptcy and paid afterwards for him. I don’t hope, the selling of my property will be made in a hurry, as to receive a fair price for the Stores. The land and other lots will the administrators in consulting the other children sell as they see fit.

I also have several shares in a mining company in the State of Washington, of this I give first to my son W.M. Weibeler 250 shares, my daughter Clara Heywood born Weibeler 250 shares, my daughter Angela Durrenberger nee Weibeler 500 shares, my son John Weibeler and also Christian J. Weibeler each 500 shares, then the Bal. of the shares of said mining company shall be divided equally between the 9 children.

Have also a mining stock in Colorado, but don’t know much about this, but these shall also go to my son John, and Christian J. Weibeler, to each 500 shares, and the bal. to be divided equal again, should there be any dividend declared by the Mining Co. shall be divided equal as per shares.

Have also a note & a transfer of an Ins. Policy on the life of M.F. Foley. Should Mrs. Foley or any of their heirs pay of the Note then executors will sign over the Note & Policy. If M.P. Foley is dead then the executor shall get the note paid and if there is a Bal. to pay same to Mrs. Foley of their heirs and the proceeds of the note shall be divided equally. To repeat my intention, the amount paid to the 3 oldest boys already, the same amount must be first paid out of any money coming in to the 6 remaining children.

The Datmor Piano shall belong to the 3 girls, and they may agree between themselves who will have it, and they must pay the other 2 girls $75.00 each. I also give the 3 girls the silverware, and to Katherine all the Chinaware. My Life Ins. Policy of the G.R.C. Benevolent Society is signed to my son G.H. Weibeler, but the intention what shall be done with the money is herein clear and stated, and agreed by him.

Lastly, I make, constitute and appoint my sons, G.H. Weibeler and W.M. Weibeler to be executors of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

WEIBELER PASSED AWAY TUESDAY AFTERNOON ATTAINS FINE AGE - TOOK LEADING PART FOR MANY YEARS IN CIVIC AFFAIRS William H. Weibeler. Belle Plaine's pioneer merchant and leading figure in the public life of the community for fifty-four years, died at 3:10 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 27. Death was due to old age infirmities, his age being 83 years, 8 months and 21 days. Since the past year he has been gradually failing in health, and for the past few weeks was unable to leave home. He was confined to his bed, however, but one day before he died. Mr. Weibeler was one of the outstanding figures of Belle Plaine, taking at all times a keen interest in everything that related to the welfare of the community. He came here in 1869, and for a few years was a clerk in the store of A. V. Heyderstaedt. In 1872 he embarked in the mercantile business for himself and remained in this business until he sold out to Mr. Behnke in 1910. For many years he conducted our largest store and was widely known as a very successful merchant. He served as mayor, member of the borough council and of the school board, and an officer in our various civic and fraternal organizations. He was married here to Catherine Schmitt, daughter of the late Christian Schmitt, and to them eleven children were born, of whom two preceded him to his grave. His wife died in 1907. The surviving children are Gerhard H., Frank; Katherine and John of Belle Plaine; Peter H. of Devils Lake, N.D; William M. of Omaha, Neb; Mrs. Clara Heywood of Minneapolis, Mrs. Angela Durrenberger of Perham, Dr. Christian Weibeler of Adrian. One sister survives him, Mrs. G. Hilgers of Jordan. Mr. Weibeler was a native of Germany, born in the city of Butzheim, and he came to this country in 1868, locating at Jordan. He moved to Belle Plaine the following year and remained here ever since. The funeral will be held Friday morning, with services at Sts. Peter and Paul's church at 9 o'clock.

Biography		WILLIAM HUBERT WEIBLER Written by Earl Weibeler On June 8, 1837 my great grandfather, Wilhelm Hubert Weipler, was born in Butzheim Germany, a small town with a population of five- hundred in the Rhine Province near Cologne. He was the only one out of a family of thirteen to leave Germany for the New World. It is possible that poverty in the family, due to his fathers handicap, delayed his departure until he was thirty. His father had lost an arm in the Napoleanic War. He left Germany in1867. While going through Customs, his first name was Americanized and his last name was misspelled, according to the way it sounded to the Custom's Officer. His new name was William Hubert Weibeler. From New York he set out for Chicago. To reach Chicago, he boarded a train whose cars closely resembled those used to transport cattle. According to my information, he remained in Chicago only short time. While there, he stayed with relatives or friends from his home town, "William," or "W.H.", as he would later come to be known. He was an ambitious man, however he decided to leave Chicago, despite the opportunities it held. It seemed that he preferred a small town much like Butzheim, to a city the size of Chicago. His dislike for large cities and perhaps Chicago in particular, was later to cost him and his heirs a fortune. After learning he had relatives living in Jordan, a small town in Minnesota, he made the long hard trip up the Mississippi River to St. Paul by riverboat, and then on to Jordan by stagecoach, or on the railroad which had just been completed. W. H. spent only a few days in Jordan visiting relatives because he soon found a job as a clerk, working for a Mr. Heyderstadt, a store owner from Belle Plaine, a small town seven miles away. Belle Plaine was very much like his home town in Germany. The population was around 497 when he arrived, but was to double within 25 years. He worked for Heyderstadt for only a few months. During this time he learned all he could about the operation of the store and about business in general. Heyderstadt's store was small, and there was much more to be learned at the large general store in the center of town, so he waited for an opening and then went to work for Jim Jordan as a clerk. Most of the men who came into the area were looking only for rich land along the Minnesota River to farm. Labor in town was at a premium, and anyone who was willing and available for steady work was paid a very livable wage. W. H. saved much of the money he made, and soon started looking for places to invest it. He bought tracts of land through out the town and in surrounding areas. By 1871, he opened up a confectionery in the front of the old Belle Plaine Hotel. Although he was still working for Mr. Jordan as an assistant or head clerk, his own small store was beginning to make him a reasonable profit. In 1872 he was approached by several other local business men for the purpose of buying land in the city of Chicago. A fire had recently swept through that city. W. H. rejected the idea. He did not think that a new city would be built over the site of the old one. A dislike for large cities may have also entered into his decision. Much of the profit he had made up to this time was on farm land in the area, so he invested his money in land in North Dakota instead. This land was to be sold later for nearly no profit at all. On May 5, 1873, W. H. married Catherine Schmitt, the daughter of a local brewery owner, Christian Schmitt. He and his new wife took an apartment in the hotel over his confectionery store where was now working full time. Two years later, in the summer of 1875, Jim Jordan's general store burned to the ground. Jordan decided not to rebuild. He sold the land to W. H., who built a small wooden frame structure to house his confectionery, which was now expanding into a general store. As his sales increased, he expanded the store by building a warehouse in back for storage. With the increased space he began to buy merchandise by the carload. Soon it became evident that the building that housed his store was far to small. In1882 he tore down the old wood structure and replaced it with a larger brick structure. His was the largest general store in a town, whose population was near seven hundred. The store was divided into three sections, each was completely separate from the other by a wall. In one section, he sold clothing, in another, groceries and in the third, hardware. The rear and second floor of the building were his living quarters. These quarters were very large and decorated lavishly. At the time they were built, he had three or four children. Because he expected his family to grow, his home was designed with seven bedrooms. This planning was to pay off, for he was to have eleven children in all. The first floor in the rear of the store held the dining room and the kitchen. Above the kitchen were the maids' quarters, which consisted of three bedrooms. W. H. needed a number of maids, because he fed the eighteen clerks who worked in his store dinner each working day. His dining room was two floors high and measured fifteen by thirty feet. The dining room table was five feet wide and long enough to seat twenty people. It was covered by a lace table cloth which extended over the table on all sides. The living room was on the second floor. It was larger than the dining room. Behind the living room were the seven bedrooms. W. H. had running cold water on the first floor. He accomplished this by running a pipe under the road to the municipal well, which was forty feet from the house. This well had a windmill pump and a twenty foot high water tower. The most unique aspect of his house was the large ballroom, which was adjacent to the living room. It was so large that it was sometimes used for basketball games. According to Harold Albrecht, the town historian, and author of several books about Belle Plaine, "Weibler Hall dates from the1870's". It was above the store owned by the same family. Up the stairs went crowds of Belle Plainites to the world of entertainment. These included home-talent plays, School entertainments, graduations, lectures, parish fairs, and dinners, wondering minstrel shows; even a Ringling Bros. Circus performance, athletic events, dances, masquerade balls--all the excitement in entertainment the town enjoyed. The same year he built the store, W. H. bought the Dakota House which contained a hotel, a bar, and a restaurant. This must have been a profitable venture, for information I have, speaks of local hotels filling up with new faces each night. These people were passing through in search of new land to farm. W. H. did not undertake the operation of this hotel, he instead hired others to run it for him. He did the same with a drug store he built next to his general store. On a lot behind the general store he built another hotel. The front of the building still bears the name Weibeler on a metal plaque. He sold a section of land near the general store to a brother-in law for use in establishing the first bank in Belle Plaine. W.H. was very much a part of life in Belle Plaine. The ways Weibeler Hall was used, shows he was culturally minded. This may have been spurred on by the pride he took in showing off his children's talents. He insisted that each one learn to play a musical instrument. A record of the school musical club in 1900, indicates that five of it's twelve members were his children. He was also involved in many of the town's civic enterprises. In 1896 he was elected Mayor. His campaign coincided with that of presidential hopeful, William Jennings Bryan. During his campaign Bryan made a train stop in Belle Plaine. Clara Weibeler, one of W. H.'s daughters, presented Bryan with a bouquet of flowers after his speech. W. H. was also a councilman, a member of the school board, and the River Commission. He was also one of the major contributors to the establishment of the Catholic Church, Sts. Peter and Paul. Those that remember him say that he and his family were almost always at church on Sunday. He would often invite friends over on Sunday by suggesting that they stop by on the way to church. He and his guests would then walk to church together. After the service they would then return home for a Sunday afternoon dinner. Although he was seldom late for mass, the priests had learned that they better not start the service without him. In the middle of the afternoon he would gather up his family and any lingering guests, and all would attend Benediction. When W. H. went to church, everyone went to church. William Hubert was literally the "Godfather" in Belle Plaine. He was present, in that capacity, for many of the christenings in town. He made one stipulation before he would consent to be the Godfather of a child. All of his godchildren had to take "Hubert" as their middle name. I have not been able to uncover the significance of this request. St. Hubert is the patron saint of dog-bite (hydrophobia) victims. Hydrophobia was greatly feared at that time. W.H. raised his children strictly, as was the custom of the times. Besides requiring training in the arts, he also insisted that each child receive a higher education. He sent all of his children to a college in the area. With the education they received at the University of Minnesota, St. John's, St. Benedict, and Mankato, many of his children were attracted by life and opportunities which existed outside of the boundaries of Belle Plaine. Kate was the only child to remain in Belle Plaine after her father's death in 1923. She continued to run the confectionery, which was a small part of the general store her father had established. In 1960, she closed the confectionery, and sold the entire building to the Coast to Coast Co. Today the building houses a hardware store, which is part of the Coast to Coast National chain. The living room and ballroom are used for storage, and the dining room, kitchen, and maid's quarters, all of which are in the rear of the building, are rented out as an apartment. Today, there are no Weibelers living in Belle Plaine. All the land and properties in and around town have been sold. The name of "Weibeler" is remembered only by those interested in the town's early history, or by those who frequented my aunt Kate's confectionery. The building bearing the Weibeler name, which W. H. had built as a hotel, is now a bar. While I was in Belle Plaine gathering information for this paper, I went into that bar. When I told the bartender that my great-grandfather had built the building, he appeared unimpressed, and responded with what I considered to be a disinterested "So"? Although the name of one of Belle Plaine's early founders is nearly forgotten, it's a name like many others that helped to build the towns, large and small, which sprang up during the frontier period of our country.

WILL WEIBELER DIES SUDDENLY AT HOME IN DES MOINES, IA.

William M. Weibeler, native of this community, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home in Des Moines, Iowa, Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock Intermittently during the past two years he had been afflicted with a heart ailment, and his wife had written the folks here the past week that Will was experiencing a recurrence of this trouble. He was 56 years old.

Will Weibeler was born in Belle Plaine November 22, 1886, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Weibeler, pioneer merchants. Here he spent his boyhood and finished his high school education at Central High, St. Paul. He graduated from the electrical engineering department of the University of Minnesota in1908.

He immediately commenced work for Westinghouse Electric Co. at Williamsport, Pa .and the following year took a position with Western Electric at Chicago. A little over thirty years ago he became associated with Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in their headquarters at Omaha and some time later was transferred to the Des Moines office where he had been ever since. During recent years he had supervision of the entire state of Iowa in his department.

During the current year he had accepted his retirement pension from the telephone company and was making ready to go to Washington, D. C. to give his services to the government as an electrical engineer in the communications field when he was stricken.

In 1912 he was married to Miss Percy Lambert of Sauk Center, Minn., who with two children survive him. They are son William in the U. S. Signal Corps service and daughter Sister St. Caroline, B.V.W. (Ethel) of Des Moines. There is one grandson.

He also leaves three brothers and three sisters, namely, Katherine and John of Belle Plaine, Peter and Clara (Mrs. Heywood) of Minneapolis, Angela (Mrs. Durrenberger) of Perham and Dr. Christian J. Weibeler of Adrian. The funeral was held Wednesday morning with services at 9 o'clock at St. Augustine's church. Des Moines, and burial was in that city.

Among those who left for Des Moines Tuesday for the funeral were John Weibeler, Mrs. G. H. Weibeler and daughter Marie and Mrs. Frank Weibeler from Belle Plaine; Peter Weibeler and Mrs. Clara Heywood from Minneapolis. Mrs. John Durrenberger from Perham, and Dr. and Mrs. C. J. Weibeler from Adrian.

Corinne Weiss Edmonson, age 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 21, 2018 in Castro Valley, California.

She is survived by her sons Erik and Spencer Larson, her brother Harvey Weiss, her grandchildren Natalie, Vanessa, and Mateo Larson, and her nieces and nephew Tim Weiss, Julie Opheim, and Jan Dehning. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Walter “Jody” Edmonson, her parents Frank and Cora Weiss, and her ex-husband and father of her children Rodney Larson.

Originally from Le Center, Minnesota, she spent most of her life as a resident of the Bay Area. Corinne spent 40 years as a nurse, including a decades-long tenure at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland, where she served in various capacities. She went to nursing school in Rochester Minnesota at the Mayo Clinic and received her BS in Nursing Education at Holy Names College in Oakland. She was an avid traveler and an adventurous spirit, with a particular love of the British Isles. Strong-willed and not shy, she was a significant presence in the lives of her many friends and family. She was one of a kind and will not be forgotten.

A memorial mass will be held at St Mary’s Church in Walnut Creek on Mt Diablo Blvd on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 1130 a.m. A remembrance ceremony will also be held in Le Center, Minnesota in the summer of 2019.²

Arlene E. Klein, age 86 of Plum City, died Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, with loved ones by her side.

Arlene was born on November 12, 1925 in the Town of Lima rural Pepin County. She was the daughter of Frank and Stella (Boehm) Weissinger. Arlene grew up in the Lima area and attended Holy Rosary School in Lima. After school, Arlene went to work at a munitions’ factory in Racine until the end of WWII. Arlene married Edward F. Klein on May 12, 1947. After marriage they lived in Plum City and owned a Marge’s Cafe there with Ed’s sister, Marge Klein. Arlene and Ed moved to a farm in rural Plum City in 1955 where they resided the rest of her life.

Arlene was an active member in St. John’s Catholic Church; she was president of the Plum City Senior Council, the Plum City American Legion Post #365 Ladies Auxiliary and was active with meals on wheels. She loved gardening, reading, taking care of the animals on the farm, most of all, Arlene loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Arlene is survived by her children, Sandra (Fred) Finstad of Shelbyville, TN, Mary Lou (Doug) Matzek of Maiden Rock, Linda (Dan) DeLong of Durand, John (Nancy) of Milton, FL, Alan (Sandy) of Plum City, Harry (Janice) of Maiden Rock, Susan Sanders of Plum City, Shirley (Gary) Sueppel of Elmwood, Andrew (Sandy) of Cottage Grove, MN and Michael currently serving in Afghanistan, 22 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, one brother, Bernie (Mary) Weissinger of Durand, one sister Marie Hayden of Elk Mound, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward (1997), one granddaughter, Karen Klein, one brother, Frank Weissinger and one sister, Lorraine Wolf.
Burial 19 April 2011 She was buried on 19 April 2011 in Saint John's Catholic Cemetery at Plum City, Pierce, Wisconsin, United States.
