Marriage 14 August 1900 John Thomas Topham married Elizabeth Magee, daughter of John Magee and Euphemia Chesney McLellan, on 14 August 1900 at Christ Church in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia.
Note 1900 The Tophams originally lived at South Muckleford where they owned about 160 acres, mostly on the northern side of the Yapeen-Muckleford Road. In 1910 they purchased at Yapeen a desirable property known as Balmoral House containing about 70 acres. The South Muckleford land was retained, and additional land purchases increased the Yapeen property to 155 acres. Initially dairying, milking Illawarra Shorthorn cows, and wool growing were the farming activities. Dairy cows were later replaced by an Angus herd for beef.

The stone and weatherboard house built in the late 1860s is situated on the west side of Campbell's Creek, reached by a timber bridge from the Midland Highway. The property has a rural setting amongst the rolling hills, and is particularly distinguished by a rambling driveway, and grassed areas with mature elms and other deciduous trees. The Topham family were the owners until 1975.
