     MARIA SCHMITT.
     Maria "Mame" Schmitt, age 87, of Belle Plaine passed away on Tuesday, February 3 at the Lutheran Home. Mrs. Schmitt was born July 13, 1899, in Union Hill, rural Belle Plaine, to John and Katherine (Behles) Schommer. She attended Union Hill Elementary School. She married Jacob Schmitt, October 30, 1922 at St. John's Catholic Church, Union Hill. She was a home maker and a member of Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and American Legion Auxiliary.
     She is survived by a daughter, Marcella Schmitt of Belle Plaine; and three sisters, Catherine Buesgens of Belle Plaine, Margaret Bofenkamp of Luverne, and Sophia Hoffman of Holiday, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband on February 8, 1963; two daughters, Lorraine and Mary Lou; three brothers and a sister.
     Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. with the American Legion Auxiliary services at 4 p.m., and Rosary Society services at 4:30 p.m. and a wake service at 8 p.m. at the Fenske-Hayes Funeral home, and on Thursday from 8-9:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be Joseph Schommer, Donald Schommer, Robert Effertz, Gary Schmitt, Dale Schmitt and George Norman.
Burial 5 February 1987 She was buried on 5 February 1987 in Saints Peter and Paul's Catholic Cemetery at Belle Plaine, Scott, Minnesota, United States.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, with a 7:30 a.m. prayer service, at Landkamer's Funeral Home, Mankato.
Mrs. Ulmen was born in Mankato, Nov. 17, 1915, to Michael and Barbara (Steinbach) Schons. She attended SS. Peter and Paul's Elementary School and graduated from Good Counsel Academy. She married Vernon Ulmen in Mankato. After his death in 1960, Mrs. Ulmen was employed for 20 years at Immanuel-St Joseph's Hospital, in surgery and central supply. She retired in 1981. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Women of the Moose, Summit Center and Catholic Social Services.
Mrs. Ulmen is survived By two sons, Bernard of Jackson and Anthony of Akron.
Ohio; a daughter, La Verne Mrs. Anthony Hoffman of North Mankato; a brother, Edward Schons of Waite Park; four sisters, Grace Daggy of Webster, Wis., Marian Wilder of Mason City, Iowa, Dolores Cox of Nicollet and Shirley Wild of North Mankato; and three grand¬children. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Louis, in 1975, and by two brothers.

Obituary July 2007 Clara M. Scopazzi, or Clare as she preferred to be known, left us on July 9, 2007 in Arlington, WA.

Clare was born January 31, 1922 on a homestead near Hinsdale, MT to Hilda O. and Michael L. Schons. At the age of 3 she moved with her family to Bellingham, WA. In 1942, Clare entered Registered Nurse's training at Providence Hospital in Everett after completing prerequisites at Western Washington College in Bellingham. After receiving her nursing degree, Clare traveled across the country with her friend Marnie, working at hospitals from New York to New Orleans and eventually to San Francisco. There she worked as a surgical scrub nurse for 15 years. On September 12, 1966, Clare married John Scopazzi. The Scopazzis settled at Boulder Creek, CA and Clare began working at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. When Johnny could get away from his restaurant, he and Clare enjoyed traveling. In 1975, Clare suffered a terrible fall which left her unable to continue to work as a nurse. She continued living in California until 2002, when she moved to Arlington to be closer to family.

She is survived by her sister Helen B. O'Grady of Everett, brother Michael L. Schons of Union Gap, WA and many nieces and nephews. Clare was preceded in death by her sister Ann L. Wilson of Marysville, WA and former husband John Scopazzi of Boulder Creek, CA.

There will be a Mass in her memory on July 19, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1200 E. 5th St., Arlington, WA, reception to follow. Dear Aunt Babe: We love you and miss you! From all your favorite nieces and nephews.

Arrangements under the direction of Weller Funeral Home in Arlington, WA.

Burial 19 July 2007 She was buried on 19 July 2007 in Greenacres Memorial Park at Ferndale, Whatcom, Washington, United States.

Helen Bernadine O'Grady, 92, died on December 30, 2009 in Marysville. She was born near her family's homestead in Opheim, Valley County, Montana on July 15, 1917, the first child of Michael L. Schons and Hilda O. Christopherson.
She moved to Whatcom County with her family in 1925. She was a 1935 graduate of Ferndale High School and worked as a waitress at the Bungalow Barbecue in Ferndale. She briefly attended Western Washington College of Education. As a Seattle resident in the 1940s, she worked for the King County Health Department, was a waitress at Manning's Cafeteria, and a clerk at Frederick & Nelson department store.

She married Robert E. O'Grady in Bellingham in 1949, and had resided in Everett since 1953, where the family were members of Immaculate Conception Parish. In 1957, she was a founding member of St. Mary Magdalen Parish, and beginning in 1960 was especially grateful for the opportunity to provide her children with a Catholic education at the parish school. When her children were grown, she worked briefly with Food and Nutrition Services of Everett Public Schools and at the Bel-Nes Café in Everett for her brother-in-law, Maurice Wilson. Helen was partially disabled by a stroke suffered in 1995.

She is survived by her brother, Mike Schons (Donna) of Union Gap, WA; children, John of Seattle, Jim (Alice) of Long Beach, CA, Jean O'Grady (Mark Hudson) of Everett, Bill of Seattle, Margy O'Grady (Greg Nylander) of Marysville, Cathy Riber (Mike) of Bellingham, Steve (Lynn) of Arlington; grandchildren, Megan Riber, Jack Riber, Ryan O'Grady, and Emily O'Grady; step-grandchildren, Susan Hamm and Kiel Hamm; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; and by her sisters, Ann Wilson and Clare Scopazzi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 8717 7th Ave. SE in Everett at 11 a.m. on Wednesday January 6, 2010. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Purdy & Walters with Cassidy of Everett. Interment will be at Cypress Lawn Cemetery, Everett.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of Sylvan Crest and Summer Breeze Haven adult family homes in Everett and Cedarcrest adult family home in Marysville for their care of Helen during the past two years. We also wish to thank the staff of Providence Hospice.

Mom, you taught us to stand up for ourselves, but never to forget the laughs, hugs, and kisses.²

He is survived by his mother and four sisters and two brothers. One of the brothers and the mother accompanying the remains to this place. The funeral was held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the Middle Lake church.¹

Funeral Mass will be Tues., Oct. 5, for Magdalen Ann "Maggie" Bjork, 81, Madison, who died Oct. 1, 2004, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. The services will be held in St. Thomas Aquinas Church at Madison, and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Magdalen Schons was born March 2, 1923, at Nicollet, Minn., to Nicholas and Frances Schons. She graduated from high school in Nicolett and served in the U.S. Navy as a Wave during World War II.

She married Gordon Bjork on July 22, 1946, at Luverne, Minn. After the war, she attended Mankato State University and received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Dakota State University. She taught school in Minnesota, ending her teaching career in Colman. In her retirement, she worked at the Madison Community Hospital and St. Thomas School.

She was a member of St. Thomas Bible Study, Altar Society and SDNEA.

Survivors include her husband, Gordy of Madison; two daughters, Mary Bjork and Nancy Bjork, both of Omaha, Neb; four sons, Timothy (Bonnie) of Pierre, Gregory (Debbie) of Ft. Collins, Colo., Patrick (Irene) of Bismarck, N.D., and Eric (Pamela) of Stockett, Mont; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

The Weiland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Burial 5 October 2004 She was buried on 5 October 2004 in Saint Thomas Cemetery at Madison, Lake, South Dakota, United States.
