DEATH ENDS MARITAL UNION OF 64 YEARS
Michael Morson, 93 Years Old, Dies Here Yesterday.
June 30, 1931

Michael Morson, undoubtedly Granby township's oldest pioneer and a resident of St. Peter for the past 10 years or more, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mueller, yesterday morning at 2 o'clock following a week's serious illness. Mr. Morson was past 93 years of age and had been bedridden for the past three years although no serious conditions attending his long confinement. He had suffered several slight strokes during the past few years which rendered him unable to be up and about and a serious turn in his condition a week ago, was the cause of his death on Tuesday.

Deceased was one of Granby township's most progressive farmers for many years, and was active in civic and community affairs during his middle life. Several years ago he retired to Nicollet to make his home and with his aged wife, remained there for a number of years before coming to St. Peter a decade ago, to make their home with Mr. and Mrs. Mueller.

Michael Morson was born in Rothenhof, Luxembourg, [sic] March 28,1838, the son of Frank and Josephine DeVillet Morson. He came to America with his parents and other family members when 5 years of age and, with his family, located in New York state for a few years before coming west to Wisconsin where they located at Port Washington for a while. There he was married to Miss Mary Schons on Sept. 11, 1867. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary four years ago. After a year in Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. Morson came to Minnesota to settle in Granby township, this county, where they remained for many years, engaged in the operation of a large farm and rearing a family of children. In 1912 the aged couple retired to Nicollet and lived there for nine years before coming to St. Peter to make their home with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mueller.

Numbered among the descendants of this veteran Minnesotan are nine children, 35 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, several of whom reside in this community. They are: Mrs. Paul Mueller and Miss Clara Morson of St. Peter, Mrs. Ed. Boys of Oshawa, Mrs. Julius Schmidt [sic] of Belgrade, Mrs. Joseph Michels and Peter Morson of Nicollet, Nic Morson of Mankato, Mrs. Mike Schouveiller of Morgan and Mike Morson of St. Paul. One brother, Nick Morson of Elmwood, Wis., also survives as does his aged wife.

Funeral services will be conducted from St. Mary's Catholic church tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 9 o'clock and internment will be made in Calvary cemetery. Rev. John Gores will be in charge of the last rites and a number of grandsons will act as pallbearers.

Burial2 July 1931He was buried on 2 July 1931 in Calvary Cemetery at Saint Peter, Nicollet, Minnesota, United States.
