ObituaryNovember 1892Obituary of William McQuie

Wm. McQuie, Sen., died of consumption, at his home in Penn township, Madison county, Iowa, October 28, at 4 o'clock p.m. Was born in Parish Kirkmabrick, Scotland, in 1826, thus being 66 years of age. Deceased left Scotland in 1857 settled in Knox county, Ill., where he lived 14 years then emigrated to Iowa, and settled on the farm where he died having lived there 21 years.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church 26 years. He was a man of unusual sympathy, tender hearted, always ready to bestow a kindness, truthful beyond any question, honest, strictly temperate, faithful and industrious in the business of his life, and highly respected by all who knew him, thus, with all those virtues, he seemed to make up a first-class citizen, be surely worthy of the title of an exemplary man.

Fondly remembered by grandson, David (Tanya) Rogers of Napanee and great-granddaughter, Allison.

Predeceased by his parents, Agnes and Robert McWhirter. Dear brother of Pearl (Donald) Layng of Athens, Paulette Alquire of Brockville. Predeceased by brother, Russell McWhirter. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Beverly McWhirter of Lyndhurst and Beryl (Russell) Kelly of Portland as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by niece Kim Layng and nephew, Richard Kelly. He loved his fuzzy canine friends, Bill and Chloe.

A Joint Memorial Service for Alex and Barbara will be held in the Chapel of the Scotland Funeral Home, 27 Main Street , Elgin on Saturday morning October 4, 2014 at 11 o’clock. Inurnment Portland United Church Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations made to the Portland United Church Cemetery, The Lanark Animal Welfare Society or University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (Cancer Centre) would be appreciated by the family.

C. E. MECUM DIES FROM ATTACK OF PARALYSIS

Carlos E. Mecum, prominent real estate dealer of Fort Collins, died Friday evening at six o'clock after lying for two days in a state of complete paralysis. He became sick suddenly Wednesday and his death has been hourly expected since that time.
Mewcum has been a resident of Fort Collins for nearly four years and has made a reputation for himself in the real estate and loan business.Previous to his residence in this city, he was a traveling advertising specialist and was considered by the business men to be a live wire worker.
He was born in Cordovia, Missouri Feb. 26, 1879, was a resident of West Virginia for many years, coming to Colorado in 1904. He is survived by the widow, formerly Miss Laura Taylor, his mother Mrs. J. W. Sylvias of Denver and a sister, Mrs. Walter McNey of Livermore. They were at the bedside when death came. Funeral arrangements not yet announced.
