McNey Painter Ranch Operator, Dies Robert Stuart McNey, 35, who has operated the famed Painter Hereford Co. ranch at Roggen since 1955, died at his home at Roggen unexpectedly about noon Thursday. McNey had open heart surgery about four years ago but has been in good health since that time and his death was totally unexpected. The son-in-law of the late State Rep. Stafford Painter, McNey took over the operations of the Painter ranch after Stafford Painter was killed when his car crashed into a loaded beet truck in October, 1955. McNey was well known in ranching circles was currently president of the Colorado Hereford Association. Born in Fort Collins Oct. 8, 1929, he graduated from Colorado State University in 1954. Prior to taking over operations of the Painter ranch, he was in the real estate business in Fort Collins with his father, John McNey. He was married to Miss Virginia Thielens Painter at Trinity Episcopal Church here Oct. 1, 1955. McNey was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Colorado Cattleman's Association and its associated groups, and the Greeley Elks Lodge. At CSU, he belonged to the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He had served in the U.S. Merchant Marines. In addition to his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Christy and Annie, both at home at Roggen. Other survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John McNey of Fort Collins; a brother, John McNey, who lives at Hereford, Tex., and is associated there with the Farr Co; three sisters, Mrs. Charles Connally of Cheyenne, Mrs. Stanley Scully of Salem, Ore., and Miss Kathryne McNey of Fort Collins; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Stafford Painter of Roggen. Arrangements, which are to be announced, are in charge of Macy-Alnutt Mortuary. |
