Obituary28 January 2004Obituary of Julie Ann MaCaw
Seattle Times, January 28, 2004

Died January 24, 2004 after an extended illness. Born September 4, 1943 and raised in Aberdeen, WA. to Donald and Vera McCaw, graduating from Weatherwax High School in 1961. Attended Washington State University, graduating in 1965 with a degree in Physical Education. While at WSU, Julie was active in campus affairs, including membership in Mortar Board, President of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, and being a cheerleader for two years. Being an accomplished violinist, she remained active in music, being a member of the WSU orchestra and studying the violin.

She was married to Gordon Uran in 1965 and lived in Colfax, WA. where Julie taught physical education, English and social studies while Gordon finished his degree at WSU. In 1966, they moved to Shoreline, becoming teachers in the Shoreline School District where Julie taught elementary physical education until her children were born. She continued to teach part time, but was dedicated to raising her family and becoming involved in community affairs. Julie was active in school affairs, serving as co-president of the Syre PTA and was involved in Einstein and Shorewood PTA organizations. She was a recipient of the Golden Acord Award for service to children and also served as chairman of the Shoreline School District Safety Council. During those years, she was also actively involved in the Jean Stewart Jordon Orthopedic Guild.

Always a supporter of WSU, Julie was active in the WSU Alumni Association, serving as President of the WSU Parents Association while Christie was attending WSU. Even at the end, Saturdays included wearing Cougar apparel and watching the games on TV while listening to Bob Robertson on the radio. In recent years, Julie has been a member of the Jean Shields Circle of the Seattle Milk Fund. Activities include roles as Chairman of the Seattle Milk Fund Finance Committee, Chairman of the All City Entertainment book fund drive and co-chair of the Jean H. Shields Circle.

Julie's passions included helping others, a love of the outdoors, and most of all having the opportunity to spoil her two grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Vera McCaw of Aberdeen, she is survived by her husband, Gordon; son and daughter-in-law William and Pamela Uran of Renton; daughter and son-in-law Julia and Scott Stern of Snohomish; brother, William McCaw of Olympia and grandchildren Natalie Stern and Nathan Uran.

Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 at Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers St., Edmonds, WA. 98020. The family suggests memorials to Shoreline Fire Dept. Medic One Foundation, 17225 Aurora Ave. N., Shoreline, WA. 98133 or Seattle Milk Fund, 1130 N. Northgate Way, Seattle, WA. 98133. She will be deeply missed by both family and friends, but the memories will be forever.
